Joseph Carbone has given eye exams for nearly 30 years.
He says he’s not really sure if he considers himself a hero, but he was recently named one of Utah’s heroes of healthcare.
Carbone runs EyeCare4kids, a nonprofit organization that offers free eyeglasses to children who cannot afford them. He has received national acclaim for his efforts, including being named one of Utah’s heroes of healthcare alongside doctors like Dr. Robert Smith (Salt Lake City Rescue Mission), Dr. John Witte (Utah Physicians Network) and Dr. David Pritchitt (Primary Children’s Hospital).
The awards recognize people who are making a difference in health care and improving lives in their communities.
As well as volunteering at an eye care center for children, Carbone helps refugees who have recently arrived in Utah.
