A free vision clinic was held at Uintah Basin Healthcare on Friday, June 24, 2022.
The vision clinic was made possible through a generous donation from the Marc and Deborah Bingham Foundation in partnership with EyeCare4Kids, Uintah Basin Healthcare, and TriCounty Health Department. Eligible individuals from our community were able to schedule their appointments through TriCounty Health Department.
16 children and 4 adults were seen by Dr. Shane Powell, Ophthalmologist, at Uintah Basin Healthcare in Roosevelt. Thanks to EyeCare4Kids, 11 individuals that needed glasses were able to pick them out that same day.
Joseph Carbone, Pediatric Optician, President and Founder of EyeCare4Kids, left his practice in 2001 to launch the nonprofit organization. Joseph recognizes that many parents are unable to afford or access professional eye care for their children and themselves. Since 2001 they have been able to provide care to over 400,000 children. Some of the patients he began to see as children, are now having children of their own and continue to bring their families back to him.
“Having grown up with an Optometrist as a father, I understand how important vision and eye care are to the overall health and wellness in our community. We’re excited to be in collaboration with EyeCare4Kids to help address this need in the Uintah Basin.” said Jim Marshall, CEO of Uintah Basin Healthcare. “It is our mission to provide access to compassionate and quality healthcare. We hope that by hosting these clinics we will be able to better serve our community by providing access to quality healthcare services for patients that may not otherwise be able to receive it.”
