February brings Valentine’s Day — a great time to talk with kids about loving and protecting their eyes!
Just like we care for hearts, we can care for eyes through daily habits that support visual health. Loving their eyes means limiting excessive screen time, balancing near work with breaks, spending time outdoors, eating eye‑friendly foods and having regular checkups.
Encourage your child to think of their eyes as “super tools” that help them learn, play sports, read books, see friends and enjoy art. Make eye health fun: create a heart‑shaped checklist of daily eye habits like reading in good light, taking breaks, eating colorful fruits and drinking water. Small habits — like never rubbing eyes with dirty hands — show love for their eyes.
Use Valentine’s Day to reinforce the message that vision is precious. When children understand why eye care matters and how it helps them enjoy life, they are more likely to form healthy habits that last a lifetime.
