Parent Question: Can Screen Time Affect Eyesight?

PARENT QUESTION: Blue Light, Screens & Kids

by | Dec 18, 2025 | Blog

Screen use is nearly inevitable in today’s world of online learning, recreational gaming and streaming.

But with that comes concerns about how much blue‑light exposure and near‑focus may impact children’s eye health and comfort.

While research is ongoing, we know that prolonged screen time can lead to digital eye strain (symptoms: dry eyes, headaches, blurry vision) and may contribute to the worsening of nearsightedness over time.

To protect your child’s eyes, here are practical tips: position screens so they’re at least arm’s length away, encourage the 20‑20‑20 rule (every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds), enable night‑mode or blue‑light filters in the evening, and ensure you schedule frequent outdoor activity which balances the near‑work load.

At EyeCare4Kids we believe visuals are critical for learning and growth — so helping children use screens wisely is about supporting healthy vision habits today and tomorrow.
