Karla Rodriquez Mata, MSW, Certified School Counselor/Social Worker for Kyrene de la Esperanza Elementary School in South Phoenix, Arizona invited EyeCare4Kids Arizona (EC4K AZ) to participate with a variety of other support service organizations at the annual Meet the Teacher Night on Monday, July 17th.
The diverse student body was engaged and interested to learn about eye health and care, and EC4K AZ services. They joined in discussions about the use of blue light glasses now that many children play video games, watch a significant amount of TV, TikTok and YouTube, and have daily class work that is done on screened devices.
“This year I had the pleasure of working with EyeCare4Kids at our Meet the Teacher Night,” said Mata. “The event was a success in part due to the wealth of knowledge the EyeCare4Kids staff provided, as well as their friendly personalities, which made our families feel comfortable asking questions. I look forward to continuing to build a partnership that ensures our students have access to eye care.”
EC4K AZ handed out blue light glasses to the student body and engaged with parents interested in learning about how to protect their children’s eye health. EC4K AZ also had discussions with students who currently have prescription glasses but do not wear them.
