Joseph Carbone Named Healthcare Hero by Utah Business Magazine

by | Nov 8, 2022 | News | 0 comments

EyeCare4Kids is excited to announce that Joseph Carbone was named to Utah Business magazine’s 2023 list of health care heroes. The annual list highlights individuals “who have made it their mission to improve the state of health in Utah. Joseph was featured in the October issue of Utah Business and also honored at The Healthcare Heroes Awards Luncheon at The Grand America Hotel last month.

The profile in the October issue of the magazine included, “He opened the first Eye Care 4 Kids clinic in 2001 and has since served 400,000 individuals with vision screenings, eye exams, and eyeglasses—nearly $200,000,000 in vision services provided. Carbone’s summer vacations, since 2003, have been spent providing vision services to the more rural areas of the state and Native American reservations.”

“We are happy to see Joseph get some recognition for his efforts in building a global organization focused on helping kids, even though we know he uses this type of attention as another opportunity to share the mission of EyeCare4Kids,” said Maggie Mitchell, executive director of EyeCare4Kids Utah. “We are fortunate to have Joseph’s vision to lead the organization, and for his ongoing dedication to underserved children and families in a growing number of communities across the country and internationally. “

Joseph G. Carbone Founder & President | Eye Care 4 Kids LinkedIn Joseph G. Carbone, ABOC; NCLEC; FNAO, has been a board-certified optician for over 47 years and has spent the past 19 years in humanitarian service. Carbone worked in New York City at the prestigious Fredricks Optometrists—now the Morgenthal Fredricks—in the mid-1970s before opening a downtown Salt Lake City practice, The Eye Doctor, which operated from 1978-2006. Carbone made glasses for profit but began to notice that many children in need went without because they were uninsured, under-insured, or the expense was burdensome for families struggling to sustain basic needs. He opened the first Eye Care 4 Kids clinic in 2001 and has since served 400,000 individuals with vision screenings, eye exams, and eyeglasses—nearly $200,000,000 in vision services provided. Carbone’s summer vacations, since 2003, have been spent providing vision services to the more rural areas of the state and Native American reservations. Every year, Utah Business honors healthcare professionals who are making Utah a healthier state. Meet the 2022 Utah Business Healthcare Heroes here.
