“Eye Care 4 Kids provides professional eyecare to low income, visually impaired children and underserved families.”
To help you better understand the mission of the Eye Care 4 Kids Foundation and the kind of children we are serving is to relate to the story of a nine-year old named Stephanie.
Stephanie was brought into our clinic by a Project Link worker from Backman Elementary School. Stephanie was doing poorly in school, she received a vision screening by a school nurse who observed a vision problem. We performed a comprehensive eye exam. Stephanie was diagnosed as having nearsightedness and acute astigmatism. Her visual acuity was 20/400. It is no wonder that Stephanie was unable to see the board, the teacher standing at the front of the room or her reading material. Because she was able to choose from over one thousand pair of stylish eyeglass frames we were able to make her a great pair of quality, new eyeglasses that she is proud to wear. Two weeks later her teacher reported that Stephanie had caught up to grade level.
The Point: Stephanie’s vision and school problems could have been easily avoided with proper routine vision care.
The Problem: According to the Center for Disease Control there are approximately 10 million children across the United States, like Stephanie, who needs vision services. These children do not receive proper vision care because first, they can’t afford it and second, they are not aware that these services are available to them.
The Solution: Eye Care 4 Kids Foundation. A non-profit organization committed to providing high-quality eye care and vision education. Eye Care 4 Kids Foundation is continuing to grow to serve more children across the country.
